Children´s books inspire play and social interaction. But they also offer a private world in which a child can hide. During 2010 Axel Johnson continues its cooperation with the Åhléns group and the Swedish Migration Board in the form of a book project. Children who come to Sweden to seek asylum will be given a picture book in conjunction with their first encounter with a new country and a totally new language. Some 8,000 books have been handed out since the start in 2007.
This project is part of the group’s commitment for child literacy that started in 2005 with Åhléns’ partnership with the “Room for children” library at Kulturhuset in Stockholm.
The Axel Johnson AB group supports organizations that work to achieve a better world – for people and for the environment. Among other things, Axel Johnson is co-founder of the World Childhood Foundation that works to safeguard the right of children to have a secure childhood. The foundation’s activities focus on protecting children from sexual exploitation. Axel Johnson also cooperates with SNS – Centre for Business and Policy Studies and Karolinska Institutet.
